      In the article the author explains why she teaches poetry in U.S. jails since 2006. Topics discussed include her work being rooted in the late philosopher Antonio Gramsci and the late educator Paulo Freire's radical hegemony, poetry as a tool for connection and distraction and growth, the two rules being followed in her classroom and common selected themes like love, addiction and parenthood.
