Presented is an excerpt from a speech which was part of the panel discussion "Ekphrastic Poetry," which took place at the Chestnut Park Hotel in Toronto on June 11, 2010 as part of the League of Canadian Poets' annual conference. Other panel participants included Ross Leckie, whose essay on Elizabeth Bishop's "Poem" appears in this issue, and John Reibetanz.
