    • Abstract:
      The article focuses on several aspects of creating a unit on poetry and placemaking using literature about Appalachia for students in the U.S. It mentions about "A Poem for My Librarian, Mrs. Long" poem by Nikki Giovanni recounting Giovanni's experiences as a young reader of color with an important early mentor; and poetry unit has asks students to examine and celebrate the Appalachian community in which they live.
